The start of a new year is like the greatest Monday there ever was! Yet, this Monday morning was about the Mondayest Monday morning there ever was… I’ll get to that later though…

January FIRST brings immense and unmeasurable JOY – as we get to start fresh. Open a new book. It’s the first scene of this movie, and you’re the star.

As easy as it is to enjoy these moments, and feel the wonder of a clean slate – it’s just as easy to lose this JOY… Inevitably you will hit a speed bump, something will knock you off that JOY ladder faster than you would ever believe. It’s coming, just wait.

So the goal then, while we have this JOY, is to learn how to keep it, regardless of how our days go.

The idea here is that you can’t place your JOY in your circumstances. Your circumstances will change.

You can’t place your JOY in the people around you. The people around you will dissappoint you.

You can’t place your JOY in the things you want to accomplish. You won’t achieve every single goal you set for yourself.

There’s JOY in a new year! But the key to year-round JOY, is to build up the JOY bank in your heart. So that when your circumstances change, when people dissappoint you, or you don’t reach a certain goal – that you can fall back on this residual JOY, and make it through.

It’s January 4th. I’ve had exactly the 4 days I wanted to start my year with: quality, quiet, time with my husband.

And this morning, life tossed us a speedbump. A JOY robber. A scene change we weren’t ready for.

But JOY comes in the morning. And our residual JOY, our JOY bank, is what we will fall on to get us through the tough days.

One thing for sure, is that together, we’ve got a heck of a JOY bank! Each year I’ve had with M by my side has been the best year yet, and I know that 2016 will be no different.

I’m excited to make my JOY bank my goal, and My One Word for 2016! Rather than get unsettled by life’s speed bumps, and anxious over the unknowns, I’m choosing to find the joy in every situation we land in. Rather than let things get to me, I’ll be working hard to create a JOY centered, and JOY filled heart for 2016!

Here’s to a JOYOUS year!
